Horizon Installs Private DWDM Fiber Ring
Friday, August 22, 2008
Horizon Data Center Solutions (HDCS), the Dallas based enterprise managed services provider, announces the commissioning of private fiber ring service to its Dallas One data center.
Lance A. Smith, President & COO of HDCS, sites the growing requirements for private, secure, low-latency networks to support data replication and back-up needs. “Our enterprise clients are running extensive Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications between data centers and latency is a mission-critical issue.”
The HDCS ring is a DWDM ring that is fully redundant, with diverse routes and entry points into each facility on the network. HDCS offers clients a variety of services over the private ring to include Gigabit Ethernet and TDM circuits.
After an extensive research period, HDCS selected AboveNet to build and deliver the first two nodes of the HDCS private fiber ring. Lance A. Smith said “Many of our clients are located in more than one data center for disaster recovery and business continuity purposes; AboveNet has metropolitan fiber optic services in most major data centers in the marketplace; which allows HDCS to offer private fiber into HDCS data centers and data centers of our partners.”
Bill LaPerch, AboveNet CEO said “We are pleased to have our high-bandwidth, fiber optic connectivity solutions handled by the professionals at Horizon, and in particular, to have access to the fully redundant, diverse DWDM ring to support the highly reliable connectivity our customers have come to expect from AboveNet”.
The first two nodes of the Horizon ring will be operational in September, giving HDCS customers the ability to touch over 25 carriers over a private network. HDCS Technology Director, Jeff Luetzow, is excited about the private fiber rings potential to his data center clients, “With the AboveNet solution, we bring “the Cloud” into our data centers. When we are fully built out, the HDCS private ring will touch all of our data centers, data centers of our partners and most major carrier hotels.”
